Like clockwork: Aussie actress Nicole Kidman nominated for Academy Award once again

Famous Aussie actress Nicole Kidman has once again been nominated for an Oscar at this year’s Academy Awards for her role as Lucille Ball in hit drama Being the Ricardos.

Nominees for the 2022 Academy Awards were released on Wednesday, February 8, with an impressive number of Australian actors and actresses making the list. Kidman’s recent nomination will be the fifth of her career, having received previous nominations for her performances in Moulin Rouge, The Hours, Rabbit Hole and Lion.

Kidman will be competing against a number of notable actresses for the award, including Jessica Chastain, Olivia Colman, Penelope Cruz and Kristen Stewart. Throughout the star’s impressive career, she has secured an Academy Award, two Primetime Emmy Awards, six Golden Globe Awards and an Emmy award.

A particularly notable performance from Kidman was her role as Sue Brierley in the 2016 emotional drama Lion where she won her first and only Oscar to date. Since then, she has impressed many with her outstanding performances in the TV series Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers and multiple other successful films and series.

Among the many actors nominated for this year’s 94th Academy Awards, Australian actor Kody Smit-McPhee secured a nomination for best supporting actor for his role in Netflix’s 2021 western drama film The Power of the Dog. The film received an impressive 12 nods for this years Academy Awards, of those including best picture and best director and Best Motion picture of the year. 2022 sci-fi film Dune also received an impressive number of nods (10), with films Belfast and West Side Story coming in at 7 nods.

On December 6, 2021, Kidman shone brightly in a stunning fairytale gown as she made her debut at the Los Angeles premiere of Being the Ricardos, the successful 2021 bio-drama film that told the story of famed Hollywood couple Lucille Ball and husband Besi Arnaz, both of whom starred in the popular sitcom I Love Lucy.

The Academy Awards ceremony will return to the Los Angeles Dolby Theatre on March 27, 2022, after last year’s Covid-19 situation meant it was held at Los Angeles Union Station.
