
It’s been months since comedy legend Jerry Stiller passed away, and now the details of his will have been revealed, with the actor generously giving a chunk of his fortune to former employees.
According to the New York Post, Jerry, who died in May 2020 at the age of 92, designated money to his longtime personal assistant and since-deceased housekeeper, in a wonderfully kind gesture that has warmed the hearts of many.
The publication reports the actor left $190,000 to his assistant “in recognition of her exceptional services toward enhancing the professional careers” of himself and his wife Anne Meara. This beautiful act has since been commended by fans across the globe, with many praising his generosity.
“You gotta love this guy – leaves money to his housekeeper and his assistant!”@JonathonTrugman wrote on Twitter. While Omar Vasquez commented on Facebook: “How could anyone not like him?”
But, that wasn’t the end of Jerry’s generosity, with the actor also leaving funds to various charities including $32,000 to Syracuse University, $13,000 to The Actors Fund of America and further money to the Henry Street Playhouse, and the Boys and Girls Republic.
Meanwhile, the majority of the actor’s estate was left to his wife, who died in 2015. According to the New York Post, due to her death his children Ben Stiller and Amy Stiller would instead be the primary beneficiaries. The will also stipulated that funds would be provided to other family members including Jerry’s grandchildren, his sister and his niece and nephew.
The news comes eight months after Jerry’s death. The comedian, best known for his recurring role as Frank Costanza on the hit television show Seinfeld, passed away at the age of 92 from natural causes. His actor son Ben Stiller shared the heartbreaking news with fans at the time.
“I’m sad to say that my father, Jerry Stiller, passed away from natural causes,” Ben wrote on Twitter alongside an image of his father. “He was a great dad and grandfather, and the most dedicated husband to Anne for about 62 years. He will be greatly missed. Love you Dad.”
This followed with an influx of tributes on social media from fans who shared in the loss of the star.
“Sad day. I’ll be watching some reruns of Seinfeld today!” one person wrote on Twitter. While another commented: “An unbelievably hilarious man.” And a third said: “My condolences, Ben. A tough and sad time – especially just now”.
