Iconic comedian Billy Connolly leaves fans smiling after rare outing

Billy Connolly has left fans smiling after the comedian stepped out for a rare outing to a cafe in the Scottish town of Milngavie, just outside of Glasgow.

The 79-year-old has taken a step back from the public eye after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2015, causing him to retire and end his comedic career of five decades in 2020.

Milngavie coffee shop, Jessie Biscuit, shared the exciting visit from the “legend” on their social media.

“When the Legend that is “THE BIG YIN” aka SIR BILLY CONNOLY comes for his yearly visit!,” the cafe wrote on Facebook. 

“Great to see you and thank you!!”

The post was flooded with comments from fans hailing the entertainer as a “legend”, with one fan commenting that even though they say you should never meet your heroes for fear of disappointment, meeting Connolly is always a pleasure.

“Met him in Waitrose a few weeks ago and he couldn’t have been any nicer. You worry that meeting a hero could end up disappointing, but not with Billy. It was the highlight of my year! Total legend!,” they said.

Despite living in the US, the beloved funny-man is on a surprise trip to his homeland, Scotland, and was also recently spotted at Mediterraneo Ristorante and Champagne Bar in Glasgow.

Like Jessie Biscuit, the Italian restaurant’s staff marked Connolly’s special appearance with a photo of the comedian alongside the caption: “Serving a Glasgow Legend! Billy Connolly at #Mediterraneo.”

Fans were quick to share their delight at seeing Connolly “out and about” with many kicking themselves for missing out on the opportunity to see him in person.

“The only man on the planet that has reduced me to tears of abject laughter multiple dozens of times over the years. Gotta love Billy,” one fan wrote.

“Aw gutted! I was in today wished I had seen him! Met him few times other the years he’s brilliant.”
