Bindi Irwin has broken down in tears while remembering her late father Steve. In Entertainment Tonight’s sneak preview of the upcoming hour-long Discovery+ documentary Crikey! It’s a Baby, which is set to air May 22 at 6.30pm on Animal Planet, the 22-year-old gets emotional as she talks about how her one-month-old daughter Grace will never get to meet her grandfather. The famed ‘Crocodile Hunter’ died 15 years ago after a freak accident with a stingray.

“It’s hard knowing that she’ll never get to actually meet him, and it’s devastating because I’ll never get to watch their connection,” she says in the clip. “But I cannot wait to be able to tell beautiful Grace all of these stories about Dad, to be able to share with her what an amazing father he was.”

Bindi then begins to tear up as she tries to picture the scenario. “It’s going to be … it’s going to be really special,” she says, as her husband Chandler Powell comforts her. “It’s going to be really special for her to know him through us, to tell her about what an amazing man he was.”

She goes on to say how much her father would’ve loved and adored his granddaughter, adding, “It is really hard. It’s hard that he’s not here because out of everyone in the world, gosh, he would have loved her the most. He would have loved her so much. But I think in a way he is still with us. And his heart and soul lives on in all of us and, so yeah, he’s never really gone.”

The documentary will follow the young couple as they prepare for the arrival of their little girl. Mother Terri and younger brother Robert will also make an appearance.

Grace was born on Thursday, March 25, coincidentally the same day the young couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary. At the time, Bindi explained that the name Grace came from her great-grandmother and relatives in Chandler’s family dating back to the 1700s. She also revealed Grace’s middle name ‘Warrior Irwin’ was of course a tribute to her late father Steve.

The preview clip comes as Bindi released an adorable new video of baby Grace donning her very first khaki Australia Zoo shirt. In the sweet video, Grace can be seen wriggling around as two live tortoises crawl above her head. Bindi captioned the post, “Our little Wildlife Warrior.”
