Australia has watched Bindi Irwin grow from an adorable wildlife warrior into an eco-conscious teen and, most recently, a married woman – and now the daughter of Steve and Terri Irwin is celebrating her 22nd birthday.

Bindi’s special day on Friday was marked by a series of loving messages from friends, family members and fans of the family, and it was Bindi’s husband Chandler who led the way this morning with a sweet tribute to his wife of four months. Chandler shared a previously unseen photograph of the couple from their low-key wedding ceremony which took place at Australia Zoo in March.

“For the first time ever as a married couple, happy birthday to my beautiful wife. This year has been nothing short of epic and you have handled everything thrown our way with courage and grace,” the former wakeboarder wrote on Instagram. “You inspire me to be a better person every day with how much love you have to give. Thank you for making the world a better and brighter place. My best friend, my wife, my everything. I love you.”

Bindi then replied to her husband’s message and said: “My husband, my sunshine, my world. I love you today, tomorrow and forever.”

Bindi also took to social media and marked her special day by paying tribute to her parents Steve and Terri Irwin. She wrote: “22 years ago my parents decided to start a family. Forever grateful for their unconditional love & encouragement. I chose the two most compassionate, dedicated & loving people in the world to be my mum and dad. There are no words to describe how much I love them.”

Alongside the message she shared a sweet throwback video of Steve gushing over his daughter as he discussed her birth. “The most incredible wildlife encounter of my life was the birth of my daughter Bindi,” the Crocodile Hunter says in the video. “Here’s this little baby girl, I swear she just fitted right in here, in the palms of my hands.”

Bindi’s younger brother Robert also shared a tribute to his sister online, choosing to share a photograph of himself as a newborn baby alongside father Steve and his big sister. He wrote: “Happy birthday @bindisueirwin. Thank you for being my best friend from the moment I entered the world.”

Robert added: “”I’ll always treasure the story of the first time you met me – it was around the time this photo was taken, just after I was born and you decided that it was your job to name me… and then promptly named me Brian! Dad then confirmed that my name was actually Robert but you still called me Brian “for short”!

“Can’t wait to celebrate today, I am so proud to be your brother! Love, Brian.”
