Fans of the popular Australian drama series, A Country Practice, were offered a healthy dose of nostalgia recently after several of the show’s stars reunited, decades after the final episode aired.

On Saturday, November 12, Ann Tenney, Kate Raison, Jo Mitchell, and Di Smith joined Georgie Parker for lunch in Sydney.

Although many years have passed since the stars were on set together, the closeness between the stars remains as strong as ever as a photo of the catch-up shared to social media showed the group smiling together and hugging.

Smith, 64, portrayed Dr Alex Fraser, spoke to Woman’s Day about the joy she felt when reuniting with her fellow co-stars.

“It’s a lovely photo, isn’t it,” Smith told the publication.

“We’re all bound together by this thing – A Country Practice. We’ve all had several TV series since then but the common denominator is being part of that wonderful cast.”

Smith revealed that the reunion was spurred on by the passing of Lorrae Desmond in May 2021 who played Shirley Gilroy on the show.

“We see each other at various times, accidentally or on purpose, and I think what happened was that we had Lorrae’s funeral and all kind of looked at each other and thought we should all get together, and not at another funeral,” Smith said.

A Country Practice followed the lives of the residents of the fictional Wandin Valley across its 14 season run.

The popular soap opera was broadcast from 1981 until its cancellation in 1994 and was the longest-running Australian television drama until it was surpassed in the late 1990s by Neighbours.
