Fans of the popular dating show The Bachelor are in for a treat as the series is set to get a spinoff version where senior citizens will be the ones in the running for finding love.

The ABC Network announced the new show, The Golden Bachelor, which aims to give one “hopelessly romantic” silver fox a “second chance” at love.

“After more than 20 years of fostering young love on The Bachelor, The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise, The Golden Bachelor showcases a whole new kind of love story – one for the golden years,” the ABC Network said in a statement.

“On this all-new unscripted series, one hopeless romantic is given a second chance at love in the search for a partner with whom to share the sunset years of life. The women arriving at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities.

“In the end, will our Golden man turn the page to start a new chapter with the woman of his dreams?”

Production for the senior dating show has been underway for a while, with the casting call being put out in 2020 before being halted by the global pandemic.

According to The ProjectABC Network director Rob Mills said the casting interviews they’d had before the pandemic were “touching”.

“It’s such a different way of doing The Bachelor because these people are just at a totally different place in their lives,” he told Variety.

“There is an interesting thing about people who have hit the other end of the spectrum, who’ve lived their lives, they’ve raised their kids, some have been widowed or divorced and maybe some have never been in love. We thought that would be an interesting dynamic through the Bachelor prism.”

Despite being a US show, many people are excited to see a change of focus for those looking for love.

The Golden Bachelor will feature a group of women over 60 competing for the love and attention of one senior man.
