Bindi Irwin has opened up about her recovery following emergency surgery in the U.S. to remove her appendix, sharing both a personal update and a powerful message about women’s health.

The 26-year-old conservationist took to Instagram, posting a series of photos—including one from her hospital bed—and thanked fans for their support.

“Healing. Thank you for your incredible words of support and kindness,” she wrote.

“The reason I share my health journey is because more girls and women desperately need answers to their undiagnosed pain. I’ve battled with endometriosis for more than 12 years. This disease is crippling and can make you feel incredibly isolated.

“We need to raise awareness and change the narrative for women’s health. I see you, your pain is real, and you deserve answers and genuine health care.”

Her recent health scare forced her to miss a major event: the Steve Irwin Gala in Las Vegas, held in honour of her late father. Just days before, Bindi had expressed excitement about attending. She had flown to Las Vegas determined to take part—but things quickly took a turn.

Her brother, Robert Irwin, 21, explained what happened in an interview with People magazine.

“She came to Las Vegas and was ready to come to the gala, put on a brave face in a lot of discomfort and a lot of pain and said, ‘Nope, I’m just going to tough it out, I’m going to go for it’,” he told the publication.

“But the surgeon said, ‘No, your appendix is going. That thing’s gotta come out.’ Health has to come first.”

Terri Irwin, 60, also missed the event to remain by her daughter’s side during the medical emergency.

“She’s going to be OK, but surgery – out of all the things we were ready for, that was not one of them,” Robert added.

“She’s just come out the other side of endometriosis and now the appendix goes. Health is so important – it really is.

“Bindi has become an incredible advocate for women’s health, particularly, and I think it’s really important to prioritise getting help.”
