Billy Crystal and his wife, Janice, have been married for over 50 years, making their relationship one of the most enduring in Hollywood. But their world was recently shaken when their family home in Pacific Palisades was destroyed in the devastating LA fires.
Despite this heartbreaking loss, the couple is leaning on their strong bond and the support of their two daughters, Jennifer, 52, and Lindsay, 47, as they begin the difficult process of rebuilding their lives.
Crystal said it was heartbreaking to lose the home where he had raised his family. Crystal and his wife had lived in their Pacific Palisades home for 46 years.
“Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing. We ache for our friends and neighbours who have also lost their homes and businesses in this tragedy,” he said previously
“Every inch of our house was filled with love. Beautiful memories that can’t be taken away. We are heartbroken of course but with the love of our children and friends we will get through this.”
The Analyze This star recently opened up to People about how he and his wife were relying on their adult daughters for support as they worked out what to do next.
“It’s a loaded life right now for us,” he told the publication.
“We will be married 55 years in June, we’ve been through all kinds of hard things, but this is the most difficult thing you could possibly imagine.
“We’re doing OK, because we have great family support, our daughters have been magnificent, and every day you inch forward. That’s all I can tell you.”
Crystal has spoken of his marriage before and shared what he thinks is the secret to matrimonial harmony: humour, respect and trust.
Crystal admitted it was love at first sight when he met his wife while working at a summer camp in Long Beach, New York in 1966.
They tied the knot four years later and went on to have Jennifer and Lindsay, who are both mothers themselves.
Speaking to Fox News Digital the City Slickers star revealed it was the “respect” he and his wife have given each other over the years that kept the couple together more than half a century later.
“Humour and trust and constantly be interested in what each of us are doing and respecting our separate lives and who we are,” Crystal said.
“But our common goal was always just to raise a beautiful family, which we have and continue to do.
“And just respect each other. And she’s an extraordinary person.”
