In a world that often celebrates the festive season with family and friends, one familiar face is joyfully breaking the mould.

Anne Hegerty, best known as “The Governess” on the hit television show The Chase recently revealed why she cherishes her own company at Christmas, marking an astonishing 40 years of solo celebrations.

In a candid interview with The Mirror, the renowned quizmaster opened up about her unconventional Christmas tradition, shedding light on the reasons behind her choice.

Contrary to expectations, Hegerty has unveiled that her choice to be solo during the holidays is not a result of loneliness or isolation but a celebration of the bliss she finds in her own company.

“For the last 40 years, I’ve spent Christmas Day quite deliberately on my own,” she explained.

“I like to be able to eat whatever I feel like and watch whatever I like and not have to hang out with people.

“It’s a bit of a treat, really. Men think I must be terribly lonely, but women envy me!”

While Hegerty chooses to celebrate Christmas solo, she certainly isn’t short of company which was evident when she previously opened up about the close bond that exists among her fellow quizmasters on The Chase.

During an interview with The Express, Hegerty peeled back the curtain on her off-screen relationship with her fellow Chasers revealing a bond that is as strong as the competition that exists on the popular game show.

“We get on well,” she told the publication.

“If someone is having a bad time, if someone [a chaser] was losing a lot, we’d kind of be very reassuring because it could be any of us.

“And we do socialise a lot. Especially when Mark [Labett] is down. Mark is probably the Chaser I know best.

“When he’s filming there’s a restaurant we go to where they know us and people don’t eavesdrop.”

Hegerty even revealed the Chasers are all part of a secret chat group where they often air their grievances about the show’s producers.

“We have WhatsApp. We have one WhatsApp group that’s got the producers in and another one that hasn’t got the producers in so we can b**** about them,” she revealed.
