Supermarket giant Aldi has been forced to remove an everyday staple from its shelves over fears a possible packaging fault could result in glass contamination.
An urgent recall has been issued for Colway Real Mayonnaise, with the supermarket giant urging customers stop using it immediately. The recall is due to faulty packaging, which could cause injury or result in glass contamination.
The product customers should be aware of is the specific 466 gram glass jars of Colway Real Mayonnaise. Products impacted have been available for sale in all Aldi stores.
“Aldi takes product quality and safety seriously,” Aldi said in a statement. “Aldi wishes to advise all customers of a recall of the above product.”

Anyone who purchased the mayonnaise is urged to stop using it immediately and to return the product to any Aldi store for a full cash refund.
“Consumers should not consume this product,” NSW Food Authority added. “Customers should return the product to the place of purchase for a full cash refund. We apologise for any inconvenience.”
The NSW Food Authority said anyone worried about their health should seek medical advice. Concerned customers can also call the Aldi food recall hotline on 1800 709 993.

It’s the second grocery recall to hit Aussie customers this week, with Nanna’s Family Apple Pie pulled from shelves over fears that the desserts could be contaminated with glass.
The New South Wales Food Authority issued a statement on Wednesday afternoon, informing the public that the pies were being recalled. The pies are sold in major supermarkets across the country including Coles, Woolworths, IGA, Foodland and other independent supermarkets.
“The recall is due to the potential presence of glass in an ingredient used in the 600g Nanna’s Family Apple Pie,” The NSW Food Authority said in a statement. “This is a result of an equipment failure with the supplier.”
No other Nanna’s products have been affected by the recall.
The recall advised that consumers who eat the pies containing glass could be injured and explained that Patties Foods Ltd has initiated the recall of the affected batches as a precautionary measure. At the time of publication, no one had been injured by consuming glass found in the products.
