No one likes to spend heaps of time scrubbing the toilet, but one common cleaning tool could be making your job harder, according to one cleaning expert.
A professional cleaner, who goes by the name @lifeinthedayofgrime shared her frustrations on social media, and showed why we need to stop using “the worst toilet brush known to man”
In a video she uploaded on TikTok, the cleaner revealed that silicon toilet brushes merely “flirt with the dirt” while demonstrating how poorly these types of brushes clean the bowl.
The video started with text on the screen that read: “POV (Point of view): Your client just bought the worst toilet brush known to man…Silicone brushes are a big NO from me.”
She finished the video with this message: “Clients … Respectfully … Just buy a normal toilet brush”.
@lifeinthedayofgrime Silicone toilet brushes 🫣🙃 cleaners I think we can all agree with this one !!! Absolute waste of time !!! Cleaners do your clients have these toilet brushes ??? 😫🩷 #cleaningtiktok #cleaning #cleaningadvice ♬ this girl is mine – 𝑀𝒪𝐿𝐿𝒴🍒💋
Many fans on social media rushed to the comment section to thank her for the advice, while fellow professional cleaners backed up her point of view.
“They would have to be the worst thing ever as a cleaner myself I really despise these so called toilet brushes,” one commented.
“I was going to buy one of these, thank God for this video, ” one added.
“I’m so glad I’ve seen this I was thinking of getting on.. but I did wonder like it don’t look like it scrubs well,” another commented.
“Hate them!”
“Urghhh I hate them! so much.”
While it’s good to know which brush to avoid, you may also need help with those lingering smells.
Thankfully, another cleaning expert has come to our aid and revealed the spot that nearly all of us miss when cleaning the toilet.
Gabby from Kings Cleaning Co said most of us miss the bumper pieces on the underside of the toilet seat and this can make our toilets smell unclean, despite our best efforts.
“Toilet smelling like wee?” she asks.
“Then try removing these,” she writes, as she points to the bumper pieces from the underside of the toilet seat.

All you need to do is lift up the toilet seat, remove the bumper pieces and spray the crevices with cleaning spray.
Almost immediately the yellow stains disappear from the crevices.
The cleaning champion then poured some of the same cleaning product into a small tub filled with water before adding in the bumpers to soak.
After that, she cut a piece of melamine sponge, otherwise known as a magic eraser, and used it to scrub inside the crevices.
And voila! No more trapped pee smells.
