In memory of Lauren Bacall (1924 – 2014)
I have always greatly admired iconic silver screen & Broadway actress Lauren Bacall, for her cool, sophisticated style. I was fortunate enough to see her on stage in Tennessee William’s play Sweet Bird of Youth at Queensland’s Lyric Theatre back in 1986.
Bacall had her own captivating sense of style – comparable to no one. Back in the Golden Age of Hollywood, movie stars were contracted to the big movie studios. When Bacall was starting out as an actress, I read that Warner Bros wanted to pluck her eyebrows pencil thin & bleach her hair. Thank goodness they didn’t!
Bacall was an authentic, intelligent woman who liked to speak her mind. She exuded class and was exquisitely beautiful. She seduced us with her husky voice, sharp wit and alluring gaze. According to Vogue magazine, Bacall’s eyebrows are in the top 27 of all time!
I loved watching Bacall in the movie ‘Designing Woman’ with Gregory Peck.
