After being cancelled last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Met Gala is officially back, and boy did this year’s celebrities turn it up for the red carpet.
Held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, this year’s theme is In America: A Lexicon of Fashion, which is a nod to US designers. The gala is very much about the fashion, with what the guests wore being one of the most anticipated features of the day. The aim seems to be to stand out, and to be talked about.
American actress Whoopi Goldberg did just that, stepping out in a very colourful ensemble on Monday evening. The 65-year-old made quite the statement in a full-length purple, frilly cape matched with a green tunic-style dress.
Elsewhere, Basic Instinct star Sharon Stone, 63, pulled out all the fashion stops in a gorgeous black cape-style dress from American designer Thom Browne, which featured black sequins. Sharon coordinated the outfit with a simple pair of green dangling earrings and wore her blonde locks pushed back in her signature cropped hairstyle.
Elsewhere, American actress Gillian Anderson kept things classic in black halter neck dress, which featured cut-out details and a short train. She accessorised with a chunky gold bracelet and wore her hair in a sophisticated up-do.
Debbie Harry turned heads with a frayed look. Styling a sheer, candy cane inspired hoop skirt and statement denim jacket, the Blondie frontwoman really looked ‘Atomic’.
And while she may not be anywhere near 60 years old, we couldn’t help but point out Kim Kardashian’s all-black ensemble designed by Balenciaga, which is getting plenty of attention online.
