Melania meets Brigitte! First ladies steal the limelight in stylish outfits

They’re both known for their incredible individual styles but Melania Trump and Brigitte Macron made the perfect pair as they put on a stunning joint display in Paris this weekend.

The Trumps flew in to France ahead of Remembrance Day and met with French President Emmanuel Macron, 40, and his wife, 65, on Saturday, before the political leaders sat down for a meeting.

Melania, 48, ditched her usual colourful glamour and wrapped up in a knee-length black wool dress which tied at the front, along with black snakeskin Christian Louboutin stiletto heels.

She wore her hair tied back in an elegant up-do and flashed a beaming smile as she was warmly greeted by Brigitte.

The French first lady opted for a knee-length blue skirt and matching jacket with gold studs across each shoulder and down the side of the skirt. She coupled the stylish look with blue heels and wore her blonde hair loose over her shoulders.

In a rare affectionate moment between the Trumps, Donald reached out to escort his wife down the stairs by the hand at one point, while she proudly stood by his side for the group photos.

Trump and Macron have had a rocky friendship over recent months, and just days ago, Trump hit out online over European army checks in the US.

The US leader wrote on Twitter: “President Macron of France has just suggested that Europe build its own military in order to protect itself from the U.S., China and Russia. Very insulting, but perhaps Europe should first pay its fair share of NATO, which the U.S. subsidizes greatly!”

Many slammed his interpretation of Macron’s words, with the French President actually reported as saying at the time: “I believe in the project of a sovereign Europe. We won’t protect Europe if we don’t decide to have a true European army.”

“In front of Russia, which is at our borders and which can be threatening, I would like to start a security dialogue with Russia, which is a country I respect and which is European,” he added to French radio station Europe 1.

“We have to have a Europe that can defend itself alone – and without only relying on the United States – in a more sovereign manner.”

Meanwhile, while the Trumps were scheduled to visit a First World War cemetery on their visit, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I, they were reportedly forced to cancel at the last minute due to bad weather – meaning their helicopter wasn’t safe to fly.

The US President has since come under fire for his decision online, with the grandson of Winston Churchill, Conservative MP Nicholas Soames, writing on Twitter: “They died with their face to the foe and that pathetic inadequate @realDonaldTrump couldn’t even defy the weather to pay his respects to The Fallen.”

President George W.
