It’s not often Meg Ryan steps out on the red carpet these days, but the 56-year-old didn’t disappoint in the style stakes as she wowed in a sheer gown at Billy Crystal’s Friars Club award ceremony in New York City on Monday.

The Sleepless in Seattle star turned heads in the gorgeous sheer gown, which cinched in at the waist before billowing out into a full-length skirt. Meg paired the elegant ensemble with simple silver accessories, and wore her hair out for the occasion.

The Friars Club, famously known for its risqué celebrity roasts, bestowed its highest honour, the Entertainment Icon Award, to Billy on Monday night. This is the eight time in the club’s 114 year history that the award has been presented. The 70-year-old joins club members Douglas Fairbanks, Cary Grant, Frank Sinatra, Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro, Tom Cruise and Tony Bennett.

The entertainment legend looked dashing in an all-black tux for the star-studded event.

He and Meg famously starred alongside each other in the romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally, with their iconic cafe-orgasm scene regularly hailed as one of the funniest rom-com moments of all time.

Meg’s glamorous turn on the red carpet comes just days after she announced her surprise engagement to rocker John Mellencamp, 67, on Thursday. The actress posted an illustration to Instagram, of what appears to be the two holding hands with the caption: “ENGAGED!”

The duo previously dated for three years before calling it quits in August 2014. They rekindled their romance again in 2017 and have been going strong ever since.

Fans were quick to congratulate the beloved actress, with one writing: “Congratulations to you both.” Another added: “I’m so happy for you!! Congratulations.”

Meg was previously married to actor Denise Quaid for 10 years, with whom she shares one son, while John has been married three times before.

The You’ve Got Mail star’s previous red carpet appearance was at the 71st Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland. Meg looked effortlessly chic in a bright white dress, which featured a high neckline, three-quarter length sleeves and a pleated skirt.

The actress has stayed out of the public eye over the past few years and hasn’t been seen on screen since her 2015 movie Ithaca, which featured her long-time co-star Tom Hanks. Meg and Tom have starred in a string of hits together, with films such as You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle propelling them to legendary status in the romantic-comedy genre.
