Say goodbye to showerhead limescale with this quick and easy trick

For many people, there’s nothing nicer than relaxing in the shower after a long day but getting under a showerhead with built-up limescale can be off-putting.

But now a cleaning wiz has come to our aid with a simple solution that will make your showerhead spotless in no time.

Yana, who goes by the social media name Awesome Motherhood, shared her cleaning method in a video on TikTok, explaining how she learnt the trick from a family member.

“My grandmother taught me this method. I’m shocked,” she captioned her video.

In the clip, Yana gathered a zip-lock sandwich bag, a rubber band, a bottle of white vinegar and a piece of tin foil and fitted the showerhead into the plastic bag. Next, she poured in a generous amount of vinegar, resealed the zip lock and filled the plastic bag half way up with water from the showerhead.

Then Yana secured the plastic bag with a rubber band to the showerhead’s neck, wrapped the whole thing in tin foil and then left the showerhead to soak for a while.

At the end of the video, Yana returned to remove a sparklingly clean showerhead from the bag which was now filled with dirty water.

While the results were impressive, a few social media users were baffled by Jana’s use of tin foil.

“Great hack, I need to try, thank you,” one commented.

“Is this why there was a zip lock in my grandparents bathroom,” another added.

“I’ve been doing this and it does work, but never with tin foil.”

“Don’t think the tinfoil is necessary lol.”

Of course, there’s more to cleaning your bathroom than just dealing with your showerhead. A constant supply of moisture plus poor ventilation often make bathrooms the perfect breeding ground for mould, which can also cause serious health risks.

But thankfully, a savvy professional cleaner has discovered a quick, affordable trick to stay one step ahead of shower mould. Taking to Instagram Jetlag Remedy Housekeeping revealed her go-to method, promising a shower that is “constantly mould free for just a few dollars”.

“All it takes is this hard-bristled scrubbing brush, I picked up mine for a few dollars from Woolworths and having it hung up in my shower constantly keeps me reminded to give everything a scrub whenever I need to,” she explained.

“When I finish my shower I’ll scrub the grout that needs to be done and then turn [the shower] back on, give it a little rinse off and I’m done. That’s all it takes to stay on top of everything.”
