Easter may be behind us for another year but that doesn’t mean the sweet-tooth cravings have gone away, so if you’re looking for a new recipe to try to curb that desire for chocolate, then look no further than one mum’s ingenious and relatively healthy recipe for a favourite Aussie treat.

Australian health and fitness program The Healthy Mummy shared the recipe for Tim Tams – with a twist – on its blog this week. The delicious treat uses only five ingredients and better yet, is just 99 calories per serve meaning you can say goodbye to any guilt of pigging out on sweets during self-isolation.

The recipe, which was shared to founder of the weight-loss program Rhian Allan by one of her dedicated members, contains just dark chocolate, tahini, coconut cream, maple syrup and Biscoff biscuits. But Allan said you don’t have to stick to it exactly and can be creative with your choices.

“Make them to suit your own tastes, with milk chocolate, dark chocolate or white chocolate – but remember these are a treat so be sure to have people to share them with. They’re THAT good!” she wrote on the blog.

First you’ll have to chill the coconut cream by either placing it in the freezer for 20 minutes, or in the fridge for eight hours. In the mean time, melt 20g of chocolate, then add the tahini and mix together.

Next, add the chilled coconut cream, maple syrup and stir well until it’s a thick consistency. Then grab half a biscuit and top with one teaspoon of the mixture, followed by the other half of the biscuit. To complete the treat, melt the remaining chocolate and dip the biscuits in the mixture to coat them completely and place in the fridge to set.

But if chocolate isn’t your thing, then perhaps you could try a three-ingredient caramel and apple sponge cake. It’s not low in sugar like the homemade Tim Tams, but it tastes delicious!

The super-easy recipe was shared on social media recently by a clever home cook and, not only does it look delicious, it can also be left to cook in the slow cooker leaving plenty of time for other fun activities.

Taking to Facebook the anonymous cook explained it only takes three ingredients to put together – tinned apple slices, packet cake mix, caramel sauce – and just one pantry staple, butter.

“Dessert tonight was so yummy – 2 cans of apple pie filling into my sprayed cooker,” the post on Facebook page Slow Cooker Recipe and Tips read.

“Then 1 cup of caramel evenly spread over the top of apples, 2 packets of cake mix only and 250 grams of melted butter.”

She continued: “Combine [the] cake mix and butter and then spread evenly over the top. [Place a] Tea towel under the lid and cook on high for 3 hours and 45 minutes. Served with ice cream. This served 6 easy with leftovers.”
