Denise Drysdale’s hilarious interview about being a Baby Boomer

Following a segment on ABC show Tonightly earlier this week where Millennials poked fun at Baby Boomers, Denise Drysdale has appeared in a separate segment on the same show to discuss her life and what it means to be a Boomer.

Appearing on the “Strayans Divided” part of the show, host Tom Ballard tried to figure out the differences between the Baby Boomer generation and Gen Z. First, it was Drysdale’s turn to answer some silly questions.

“You’ve been around for 69 years, how long have you got to go do you think? Ballard asked the Studio 10 host.

“I’ve got a bad cough at the moment, so I don’t know,” she joked. “Maybe a couple of weeks. Listen, if I die before this goes to air, still put it to air. It’s fine.”

Ballard then asked 22-year-old Amy Marks from Gen Z what she thought of Millennials. She simply groaned.

“Respect your elders, young lady,” Ballard hissed. “Except Baby Boomers! They suck.”

Ballard then informed Drysdale that many people in society thought Baby Boomers were self-cantered, greedy, materialistic, short-sighted, grievance-spouting, stubborn, patronising and overly-conservative people. He also said people thought they destroyed the environment, rigged the economy and given younger generations nothing.

“I think you’re right,” she laughed.

Meanwhile, Marks said Boomers were “out of sync” with where society is these days, pointing out that everything from technology to mindset is different between the two generations. It seemed as though Drysdale agreed.

The two-time Gold Logie award winner said she left school when she was 15 and that she’s been working ever since, pointing out younger generations don’t want to put in the work and want everything now. Ballard joked that younger generations should steal from Baby Boomers.

“You’re just waiting for us to die so you can move into the houses,” she laughed.

Interestingly, Drysdale also said that society’s attitude, particularly when it comes to flirting, isn’t what it used to be.

“Years ago, if I got a wolf-whistle I used to think, ‘thanks very much’. Now they can land in jail for it or something. It’s ridiculous,” she said.

Still, despite missing the old days, she said Boomers weren’t leaving behind a world better than the one they were born in. She also revealed she doesn’t have a Facebook account, but does have a website.

Even though she’s approaching her 70s and should be thinking about retirement, Drysdale is busier than ever. In addition to appearing on Studio 10, the star recently announced she is joining the cast of Neighbours in a guest appearance.
