From top movies to TV shows: The best of Netflix, Stan and more in June

Whether you’re a fan of a classic TV show, you’d like to catch up on some of the world’s most popular Oscar-winning movies, or you just want to sit back and relax with an easy-to-watch film or show, some of Australia’s top streaming sites have a huge line-up for June 2018.

Netflix, Stan, SBS On Demand, Foxtel and more have scheduled a series of hit movies, weekly episodes, original series, and more ready for winter here in Australia, giving the whole family an excuse to snuggle up on the sofa and relax.

From world favourite Bridget Jones’ Baby on Netflix, to Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave on Stan, some of the biggest movies are streaming on your monthly subscription, so there’s no need to rush out to buy the DVD.

Here’s a look at some of the top hitters for the coming four weeks:

The first big movie to hit Netflix in June is Black Swan, with Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis taking the lead roles in the dark thriller. Meanwhile, it’s joined by 127 Hours on the first day of the month too. The movie is based on Aron Ralston, a canyoneer who became trapped and was forced to cut off his own arm to survive.

Subscribers will also be treated to a new, original show November 13: Attack on Paris, a three part documentary exploring the human stories behind the terrorist attacks that took place in Paris in 2015.

Elsewhere on Netflix, for US TV fans The Break with Michelle Wolf airs from June 3, while The Secret Life of Pets makes its debut from June 6. If you’ve got kids or grandkids round, it’s the perfect movie to put on to keep them amused for hours – and you may just enjoy it too!

For fans of Marcella and sci-fi series Sense8, the new series air from June 8, before Bridget Jones‘ latest movie finally arrives on your screen on June 11. Whether you’ve been a fan of the popular character for years, or it’s your first time watching, the endless comical scenes are enough to entertain the entire family – just perhaps not the younger relatives!

Four days later, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out Of The Shadows arrives on the streaming service, a great option for the kids, before June 18 sees classic 1994 movie Muriel’s Wedding no doubt getting millions of views, as well as Unsolved: Tupac & Biggie. The American true crime anthology television series will go in-depth into the case, offering real-life interviews and an order of events to keep you hooked throughout.

Keeping the kids constantly entertained when it’s starting to get chilly outside can be testing, but a day later on June 19, The Legend Of Tarzan airs on Netflix, with The LEGO Ninjago Movie one day after that. If Lego isn’t your thing though, wartime movie Dunkirk also arrives on June 20 too, reviving the events of the evacuation of World War II.

If you’re wanting an easy-to-watch series, away from heavier movies, then one to test your mind is Derren Brown: Miracle on June 22, before moving romance tale Midnight in Paris airs from June 27. Two days after, Netflix welcomes Churchill’s Secret Agents: The New Recruits, before a series of other TV hits are introduced on the last day of the month, including season four of Line of Duty.

Elsewhere, Netflix has strong competition from Stan this month, as big names like 12 Years a Slave, The Complexity Of Happiness, thriller The Call and regular episodes of Just Another Immigrant: Season 1 arrive on the site throughout the month.

Meanwhile on Foxtel, comedy Anchorman: The Legend Of Ron Burgundy, Big Momma’s House, The Iron Lady, The King’s Speech, The Queen and The Lost World: Jurassic Park are all making their debuts – promising action, adventure and romance from start to finish.

Elsewhere, if you’d prefer to catch up on a recent TV show, SBS On Demand is offering new episodes of The Good Doctor and hit Westworld (1973).
