After fans bid an emotional farewell to Neighbours in 2022, viewers may soon be seeing their favourite Ramsey Street residents on screen once again after it was revealed the show is set to start filming next month.

During the Neighbours – The Celebration Tour at the London Palladium, fan favourites Alan Fletcher, Jackie Woodburne, Stefan Dennis, Ryan Moloney, Annie Jones, and April Rose Pengilly announced that filming will begin in April.

The show’s executive producer, Jason Herbison told those in attendance that “it feels very real now. It’s a hive of activity at the studio.”

“We’re busy writing the next chapter of Neighbours, bringing to life again the show’s much-loved characters as well as new residents,” Herbison said.

“It’s exciting to see the sets being prepped, ready to start filming on April 17 which will be a huge day for everyone involved.”

Although he was vague on details, Alan Fletcher who portrayed Dr Karl Kennedy on the long-running series recently revealed that audiences can expect to see their favourite neighbours on screens “by the latter part of 2023″.

“The task is so large, that they just have to step by step work their way through that,” Fletcher told TV Tonight.

“So we haven’t got specific deadlines on anything at the moment that we’re aware of. But we will of course start filming reasonably soon enough after we get back from this tour.

“An on-air date is very vague, but certainly by the latter part of 2023, people will have Neighbours back on their screens.”

The iconic Aussie soap was axed in 2022 after almost 40 years on air, making the show the longest-running drama series on Australian television since its conception in 1985.

In a statement released on the Neighbours Twitter page at the time, it was revealed that the loss of their key UK broadcast partner and an inability to find alternative funding has meant the show can no longer afford production.

“We are so sorry to say that after nearly 37 years and almost 9000 episodes broadcast we have to confirm that Neighbours will cease production in June,” the statement said.

“Following the loss of our key broadcast partner in the UK and despite an extensive search for alternative funding, we simply have no option but to rest the show.

“To our amazing, loyal fans, we know this is a huge disappointment, as it is to all of us on the team.

“We thank you for all of your messages and support and promise to end the show on an incredible high.

“From here on, we are celebrating Neighbours.”

Mere months after the final episode aired it was announced that the show would make a return to television screens, much to the delight of fans.

“Breaking News from Erinsborough! Neighbours will return for a brand-new series next year exclusively on @AmazonFreevee, alongside thousands of episodes from previous seasons to stream as you please,” the announcement read.
