Neighbours alumn Kylie Minogue has stepped back into her mechanic’s overalls once again as she teases fans with first-look photos from the show’s forthcoming finale.

Minogue and onscreen Neighbours love interest Jason Donovan have reprised their iconic roles as Charlene and Scott Robinson as the long-running Australian soap comes to an end after 37 years on screen.

While details of the 90-minute finale, which is set to air on Channel Ten on July 28, have been closely guarded Ramsay Street’s favourite couple have once again whipped fans into a frenzy of excitement with the adorable snaps from the set.

Pictures from the set showed the pair laughing and embracing, as Minogue wore Charlene’s iconic denim overalls while Donovan sported a teal flannel and dark grey jeans.

Minogue shared the images with her 2.4 million Instagram followers and wrote: “Now we’re back together.”

Donovan, meanwhile, also took to social media to share a photo of the Ramsay Street sign that he and his co-star signed.

“So good to be back with this absolute legend @kylieminogue,” he captioned his post.

Since sharing the photos, fans have also taken to social media to express their thrill in seeing their favourite on-screen couple back together and share their own nostalgic throwbacks.

Neighbours, which first aired in 1985, follows the lives of a community living in the fictional Melbourne suburb of Erinsborough, shot its final scene early in June.

The show ceased its production after failing to secure new funding since being dropped by its broadcaster earlier this year.

Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison admitted he did feel the weight of responsibility to craft an ending worthy of such an important part of Australian television.

“Firstly, it’s about wrapping up the storylines and the characters in a satisfying way,” he said.

“And second, it’s what else we might do to make it feel like a worthy ending for a show that’s been going for 37 years.”

However, Herbison has promised that the show’s ending will be “very warm, very celebratory.”

“I’m just going to say it’s very Neighbours, the end,” says Herbison. “We are a show that has at times gotten away with things that maybe other shows haven’t.

“I did think, ‘What little thing could we do at the end that that might be memorable and in keeping with some of the slightly silly things we’ve done over the years’. That’s the way to put it.”

Other casts returning for the finale include Chris Milligan, who played Kyle Canning, Morgan Baker as Callum Rebecchi, Natalie Bassingthwaighte, who played Izzy Hoyland, and James Mason as Chris Pappas.
