Popular TV host Johanna Griggs has announced she is leaving one of her most loved reality shows after seven years.
The television presenter made the surprise announcement in a lengthy statement via social media, confirming she would be leaving House Rules following the show’s grand finale on Wednesday evening.
Taking to Instagram, the 45-year-old thanked fans for their “passionate support” of the show, which she has been front and centre of since 2013.
Johanna wrote: “I’ve got some news for you all. After a great deal of consideration, I recently sat down with the network to ask to be allowed to step down as host of House Rules.
“They have very graciously agreed for me to do that, which I’m incredibly appreciative of. As the show goes into preproduction for the next season, it’s the perfect time to hand over the role to someone who will take the show into [season eight].”
The mother-of-two, who has also been the host of Better Homes and Gardens since 2005, added reality TV has been an eye opener, saying: “I’ve had a great time over the last 7 years steering the ship.”

She went on to thank the crew behind the scenes, praising the show’s stylist Rosie Trindall and hair and makeup artist Lisa Soames, as well as the writers Grant Osborn and Robert Adams.
Johanna added: “I’ve worked with fantastic judges in Joe Snell, Drew Heath, Jamie Durie & Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen… & the beautiful & talented Wendy Moore right from the start of the show. But the best part always for me, has been getting to know the teams. We’ve laughed & cried together; they all trusted me very quickly & made my job incredibly easy which I’m so thankful & grateful for.”

As to why she’s leaving, the television presenter said she’s looking forward to taking up new opportunities within the Seven Network.
“My role as host of Better Homes and Gardens, which everyone knows I’m crazy about, keeps me very busy. Hopefully now though, with a different work load, I’ll be in a better position to take up one or two of the great opportunities that come my way, especially with 7 Sport, which is such a passion for me.
“But thank you for being such a fun audience to interact with. Now I’m returning to my holiday with my darling husband. Back soon, Johanna.”
Many surprised fans took to social media to praise the long-standing host, with one writing: “Awesome work – you made it your own, impossible shoes to fill… now for a well deserved rest!”
Another added: “Has always been a pleasure watching you. You have the most kindest beautiful face and I just love your unpretentious attitude.”
While a third wrote: “Best in the biz you are Joh! Enjoy the holiday.”
