How to watch the royal wedding at home

Prince William and Catherine’s wedding was one of the post popular events on TV in decades when it aired in April 2011 – and now it’s his brother Prince Harry’s turn, as he prepares to say ‘I Do’ with his actress fiancee Meghan Markle.

While thousands of people are set to line the streets of Windsor to catch a glimpse of the beautiful bridge in her wedding dress, hundreds more guests will have the chance of stepping inside to see the whole ceremony first-hand.

However, there’s no reason for Aussies, and anyone else living across the world, to miss out on any of the action. After all, what better way to spend a Saturday night in front of the TV than watching everyone’s favourite redhead finally get his happy ending?

Channel Nine will air the live wedding celebrations on Saturday, May 19 from 7pm, with the program aptly named Harry and Meghan – The Royal Wedding.

Today Show hosts Georgie Gardner and Karl Stefanovic are taking the reigns to present the special TV event, with cameras set up across London and Windsor to capture the top moments from the festivities. They’ll be joined on the program by presenters including Allison Langdon, Lizzie Pearl, Laura Turner, Michael Best and Seb Costello.

Camilla Tominey, the UK’s Sunday Express royal editor will also join the presenters, along with the Queen’s former press secretary Dickie Arbiter, and royal photographer Arthur Edwards, who has chronicled more than 200 royal tours across 120 countries over 40 years in the business.

Kensington Palace previously confirmed that all the wedding guests were invited to a lunchtime reception at St George’s Hall, hosted by the Queen. Later in the evening, a special selection of 200 guests will be invited to a private reception at Frogmore House that will be hosted by Prince Charles.

On top of the extensive guest list, 1,200 members of the general public have been asked to attend the grounds of Windsor Castle to celebrate the royal wedding. More of the public will get up close and personal with the couple when they take a carriage ride around the town of Windsor ahead of their arrival at Windsor Castle.

While there’s much excitement in the lead up to the big day, royal fans won’t have to wait until Saturday to start soaking up the fun. Channel Nine will host a week-long special ahead of the main event. Beginning on Saturday, May 12, Nine News, A Current Affair, 60 Minutes, Today and Today Extra will cover all the preparations f0r the big day.

Elsewhere, Lifetime is preparing to release its movie Harry & Meghan: The Royal Love Story in the weeks before the wedding itself. The romantic movie will air in the UK and US from May 13. Channel 7 has bought the rights to the film in Australia, but are yet to confirm an on-air date.

The movie, starring Murray Fraser and Parisa Fitz-Henley as Harry and Meghan, tells the story of how the couple met, dated in secret, and eventually revealed their love to the world in a surprise engagement announcement.
