Top tips for applying make-up on a mature face

No need to make-up excuses not to look your best.

Make-up has changed over the years, and so has your face.

That is why it is important to make changes to your make-up habits, and look at what best suits the new you.

Chances are, it is not what you have done all your life.

Here are a few tips to keep in mind when it comes to making yourself look your best with make-up.

BB cream, if you haven’t already discovered it, might be a game changer when it comes to daily make-up use. BB stands for beauty balm and it is basically a tinted moisturiser, but with more colour and more value, as It includes sunscreen, moisturiser, primer and a light foundation. You can use it over top of your normal moisturiser if you are feeling extra dry, or use alone. You can also buy CC cream which is a BB cream with added colour corrector.

When choosing a foundation, for that extra coverage, forget the power compacts and look for something creamy. Even better, find a mousse foundation that will help disguise fine lines and wrinkles.

Skin tone changes as you age and your natural colour also fades. Adding a tint of colour to your lips, with a light lipstick or gloss, will bring some of that colour back.

If you want to add a touch of colour to your cheeks but don’t have a blusher, try your lipstick. Dab a few dots along the cheekbones and blend it in with your fingers. It not only gives a touch of colour, it is a great match to the rest of your make-up.

Eyebrows thin with age too, and tend to lighten in colour. Brows are very much back in vogue so don’t be afraid to dig out an eyebrow pencil and bring your brows back to life. Keep the colour a touch lighter than your natural brow colour.

If you like a little eyeshadow, keep it light. Darker colours are more ageing. Don’t apply it too thick either, as it will just crease in the creases.

When choosing a mascara there are so many options besides colour. Look for lengthening types rather an volumising. If you have lighter coloured hair a dark brown may be a better colour choice than black. Apply only to your top lashes.

Keep those cotton buds handy. They are wonderful for cleaning up make-up mistakes.

Don’t forget the hair. Keep it shiny with a treatment and look at the style to make sure it suits your face shape and your lifestyle.
