Her public appearances have been few and far between in recent times but First Lady of the United States Melania Trump has well and truly made up for it with her recent choice of outfit.

The 48-year-old opened a federal conference on cyberbullying in Rockville, Maryland on Monday. The visit was one of her Be Best initiatives and focused on the First Lady’s passion to end bullying.

For the outing, Trump went business chic and stunned in a gorgeous US$1,195 (AU$1,624, UK£931) Chloe blue blouse. Complete with an incredible pussy bow, the mother-of-one upped the fashion ante at the event, taking a leaf out of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex’ book once again as she followed her lead in the stylish suit.

She also wore a stunning navy blazer by Michael Kors. Always one to be daring with her fashion choices, Trump wore her blazer over her shoulders. She completed the look with a matching pair of navy heels.

As always, the First Lady wore her luscious brunette locks down and in a curly style for the event and opted for her iconic smoky eye look.

“#BeBest is dedicated to the well-being of children,” she wrote on Twitter shortly after the event. “Thank you to @HRSAgov @SecAzar for allowing me the opportunity to be part of the efforts in providing a safer & healthier online presence at the #CyberbullyingSummit.”

During the event, she took to the stage to discuss the issue of social media, noting that while it can be used in positive ways, it can also be destructive.

“I have been so inspired by the children I have met in my time as First Lady and believe our next generation has unlimited potential to impact our world in positive ways,” she told the audience.

She encouraged schools, technology and social media companies and community groups to listen to children’s ideas and concerns.

“I believe adults will be better able to help them navigate this often difficult topic,” she said. “Let’s face it – most children are more aware of the benefits and pitfalls of social media than some adults, but we still need to do all we can to provide them with information and tools for successful and safe online habits.”

Ironically, Trump was the target of bullies when she originally revealed her Be Best campaign in May. While she said too many people were using social media negatively and that it was impacting children across the world, many took to social media to slam what they called a “confusing slogan”. Many explained that the awkward grammatical structure of the slogan was confusing.

Her outfit mirrored those often worn by Prince Harry’s new wife Meghan before their wedding. Meghan famously made a statement at her first official black tie event with Harry in February for the Endeavour Fund Awards in London.

The US actress went for a very modern look in a tight-fitting black Alexander McQueen trouser suit, and towered in stiletto heels.

It’s not the first time Melania has shown a similar taste in clothes to the duchess, and just days ago she opted for a flattering shirt dress similar to those worn by Meghan more recently following her royal wedding.
