It seems Melania Trump can’t do anything right these days as she continues to divert attention with a stream of controversial outfits. Photos of the US First Lady gardening are going viral, almost a year after she made an appearance in Michelle Obama’s vegetable garden.
The photos were taken when Melania paid her first visit to the White House Kitchen Garden, which was started by Michelle in 2009.
The 48-year-old wore a $1,000 (AU$1,300) Balmain plaid shirt to the event, along with squeaky-clean Converse sneakers. While the event took place almost a year ago, the photos have popped up again on social media, and Twitter users haven’t been so forgiving.
American model Chrissy Teigen led the criticism, saying: “These look exactly like my workout soles. because i work out as much as this chick gardens.”

Her post racked up more than 96,000 likes and plenty of supportive comments from equally-furious social media users. One said: “The basket is as empty as her head and her soul. WTF is she trying to prove?”
Another added: “THE most awkward pose EVER. I can hear the photographer now ‘you’re a tiger baby. Roar! Yeah baby yeah’!”

This isn’t the first time Melania has been called out for her outfit choices. When she went to visit immigrant children on the Mexican boarder in June, Melania wore a jacket bearing the slogan ‘I really don’t care, do u?’.
People took to Twitter to slam her outfit choice calling the mother-of-one “disrespectful” and “inappropriate”.

A spokesperson for the first lady insisted there was “no hidden message” behind the jacket, and said: “If media would spend their time & energy on her actions & efforts to help kids – rather than speculate & focus on her wardrobe – we could get so much accomplished on behalf of children.”
However, her husband Donald Trump, the 45th President of the United States, later confirmed that there was a hidden message behind her choice of coat, claiming that the bold statement on the back of her green parka was actually in reference to the fake news media, following recent speculation in the press about the FLOTUS’ whereabouts.
Tweeting in defence of his wife, President Trump said: “’I REALLY DON’T CARE, DO U?’ written on the back of Melania’s jacket, refers to the Fake News Media. Melania has learned how dishonest they are, and she truly no longer cares!”
