Mature model features in new lingerie campaign

A mature model features in a new lingerie campaign in New Zealand.

A New Zealand lingerie company has launched their new autumn/winter ’17 campaign, featuring a 56-year-old model.

The company, Lonely Lingerie has always placed a focus on documenting women in all shapes and sizes, and they said they used Mercy Brewer for the campaign for her “affable attitude towards ageing” and muse-worthy life.

Originally from Scotland, Mercy moved to New Zealand with her husband in the early naughties.

Her earlier career in modelling saw her walk alongside Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell.

Following the launch of the Lonely Lingerie campaign Mercy was interviewed by Vogue, and admitted she was gobsmacked and flattered at being approached for the campaign.

“Determined to do it although I felt I may well be out of my comfort zone,” Mercy told Vogue.

She said a regret of saying no to Alexander McQueen, who had personally requested her for his debut show, because she was incredibly shy about her body.

“Anyway, I wasn’t going to make that mistake again with Lonely…there’s not a model in the world who would turn them down.”

Mercy said she was now more relaxed about her body in a way she wasn’t when younger.

“I always wanted to look like someone, anyone else. Now I’m grateful for the genes I’ve inherited from my parents, make the most of the better bits and accept the rest.”

The photographs, taken by Harriet ‘Harry’ Were, were shot inside a historic homestead in New Zealand.

“Ageing is bittersweet but there’s definitely a reward for every loss.”
