Helen Mirren reveals her top tips on great self-esteem at any age

Helen Mirren's biggest life lesson? "Be on time and don't be an a******e."

We’re used to Helen Mirren looking amazing even when in the buff in films, but the actress confesses that keeping her self-esteem high is an “ongoing battle.”

Mirren was speaking last night at the unveiling of the L’Oreal Paris’s All Worth It campaign, which was designed in partnership with Prince Charles’ The Princes Trust to teach young people to boost their self-worth. L’Oreal’s well known for its ‘You’re Worth It’ advertising line.

Mirren, pictured below with other representatives of the All Worth It campaign at the launch in London, has often commented that she’s a relatively ordinary-looking woman, saying “I’m not gorgeous and I never was, but I was always okay-looking.”

But the L’Oreal ambassador told The Telegraph newspaper that she had some confidence-boosting tricks, including enjoying the moment, having a sense of humour and sharing your worries with your mates.

And remember that everyone had moments of self-doubt, she said, admitting that she’d been struck by nerves before getting on stage at the launch.

“It’s not an age thing. I know it’s the hardest when you’re young, but it’s not something that you miraculously grow out of,” she said. “It’s an ongoing battle that one has with oneself and the world about you.”

Asked for her ‘biggest life lesson’, the celebrated actress is similarly down to earth.

“Be on time and don’t be an a******e,” she advised.

What do you think of Helen Mirren’s self-esteem tips? How do you boost your own self-confidence?
