Prince Harry follows his mother’s charity lead

Prince Harry is following in his mother’s footsteps with a visit to an Aids centre.

Diana, Princess of Wales visited the same charity, Leicestershire Aids Support Service, in 1991.

An image of the Princess taken that same year, shaking hands with an Aids patient without wearing gloves, became famous all over the world and was known to have helped with the stigma of the disease.

The princess was quoted as saying “HIV does not make people dangerous to know. You can shake their hands and give them a hug. Heaven knows they need it”.

During Prince William’s visit on March 21 the 32-year-old stopped to look at photographs of his mother and a wall of tributes on display in the facility.

LASS provides information, advice, support and advocacy services for people who are living with or affected by HIV, and also raises HIV awareness through training and workshops. such as the one below, with Prince Harry pictured talking to participants.

The Daily Mail reported the Prince also spoke frankly about HIV and the need for further education, telling campaigners: ‘It cannot be acceptable that the first time young people know what HIV is is when they catch it.’
