The Chase has seen some awkward TV moments in its time, but one contestant almost took the crown with a near-miss on air this week.

It’s one of the most popular quiz shows in the world, and while we have our own version here in Australia, the UK version is just as popular.

On Wednesday’s show, host Bradley Walsh struggled to contain his laughter as he met contestant Graham, an engineer from Romford, England. While his appearance seemed to be going well from the first second, he then managed to land himself in hot water at home.

As Walsh asked what hobbies he has, Graham said he loves golf, adding: “I play Mondays, Wednesdays, and mainly Saturdays.”

The host then asked the all important question of what he’d spend the money on, should he win. Graham quickly replied: “Me and my wife went to Aruba about ten years ago… We flew business class, my wife liked that. So I’d like to very much treat her again.”

However, as Walsh asked what her name was, Graham paused for a few seconds, struggling to remember the name in front of the cameras, before finally saying: “Anita.”

Bursting into laughter, Walsh joked: “You had to think about that! You’re too busy playing gold Graham!” Luckily, it appears it was just a bit of stage fright – and who can blame him?

Viewers spotted the awkward moment straight away, and one wrote on Twitter: “How can you forget your own wife’s name? #TheChase,” while another joked: “Love Graham. Any man who has to think of his wife’s name is a top bloke in my book #TheChase.”

Shortly after he left, the show’s official page tweeted: “Nooooooo Graham!!!! You’ll be missed. What a character! Go apologise to Anita for nearly forgetting her name #TheChase.”

It’s just the latest in a long line of hilarious moments, on both the UK and the Australian versions of the show.

A vintage clip from the show recently went viral on social media, with some fans calling it the funniest game show moment ever. Walsh had the all-important task of asking contestants questions.

On this particular occasion, he could barely contain himself. He asked: “In what sport does Fanny Chmelar compete for Germany?”

At first he contained himself, but it didn’t take long for him to burst into laughter. Given that the name sounds slightly inappropriate, we don’t blame him!

The more he laughed, the more hilarious the contestant and audience found it. Even Anne “The Governess” Hegerty struggled to contain herself.

At one point Walsh even burst into tears because he was laughing so hard. “We’re gonna make a rule now, never say her name again,” he said between fits of laughter.

“I’d be straight down the court in the morning if that was my name. I’d have that changed straight away!”

The contestant eventually got the answer wrong, but it remains one of the show’s most hilarious moments.
