Phil Collins is back on the booze he said was killing him

Phil Collins has admitted he is back drinking again, after being on the wagon for three years.

The 66-year-old English singer songwriter had previously said alcohol was killing him, although he didn’t believe he was an alcoholic. Instead he said he just had a problem with alcohol, but cited boredom following retirement and splitting from his wife for a time as a reason for drinking. That ‘problem’ lead to him being hospitalised in 2012.

The Sun has now reported that Collins is back on the booze, but he insists he can now control his boozing and is capable of enjoying “a couple of glasses of wine”.

The performer, a former child actor, joined Genesis in 1970 as a drummer, becoming the lead singer in 1975 when Peter Gabriel left. Invisible Touch and I Can’t Dance were among some of the bigger hits for the band. Collins then went on to solo career in the ’80s with hits like A Groovy Kind of Love and One More Night.

Recent health issues, including back and hip problems, are hopefully in the past for the singer, who is making a comeback to the stage with a European tour that starts today in Liverpool. The tour is called Phil Collins Not Dead Yet Live. Not Dead Yet was the name of his autobiography released in October last year.
