Phil Collins’ daughter pens open letter to him

Lily has spoken out about her famous father.

Phil Collins’ daughter has published an open letter to him, calling him out for his bad behaviour, in her autobiographical book ‘Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me’.

Lily Collins wrote the honest account of her relationship with her father, saying she was ready to forgive and move on after years of friction.

“I forgive the mistakes you made,” she writes. “And although it may seem like it’s too late, it’s not. There’s still so much time to move forward.”

Phil has been open in the past about his indiscretions and the damage they did to his family.

He wrote in his own book last year that he cheated on Lily’s mother when she was five years old, something Lily says caused her a lot of hurt and confusion for years.

“We all make choices and, although I don’t excuse some of yours, at the end of the day we can’t rewrite the past,” wrote Lily.

“I’m learning how to accept your actions and vocalise how they made me feel. I accept and honour the sadness and anger I felt toward the things you did or didn’t do, did or didn’t give me.

“I now understand that my frustrations surrounding our communication are not about changing you, but accepting you as you are.”

She said that she’s come to understand that many of her personal issues stem from her relationship with her father.

“I’ve realised that many of my deepest insecurities stem from these issues with my dad,” she writes. “It’s taken me over a decade to resolve some of them… and to finally build up the courage to speak my mind to him.”

The letter ends with an invitation to start their relationship over.

“There’s still so much time to move forward. And I want to. I’m inviting you to join me,” she concludes. “I’ll always be your little girl.”
