Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell has revealed his incredible weight-loss journey over the past year and how he’s managed to keep the kilos off during self-isolation, when most people are continually fighting the urge to grab another biscuit or slice of cake.

The 60-year-old undertook a pretty extreme lifestyle overhaul 12 months ago after a health scare left him worried about his future. While he’s also turned to a vegan diet to shed the kilos.

Now, speaking to Extra this week about coping in the coronavirus lockdown, Simon said he’s been self-isolating with his partner Lauren Silverman and their son Eric – and for the most part he’s managed to stick to his strict health regime.

“I think I’ve dropped, since I started this diet just over a year ago, maybe 60 pounds [30 kilos],” he told host Terri Seymour. “[It’s] Easier [in lockdown] because the only difficult thing is when Eric orders a pizza or something. Because pizza is the number one thing I miss.

“I’m doing a bit of cooking, I’m exercising, funny enough, more during this time. Still sticking to the diet. I do feel good at the moment.”

Other than that, Simon said his family is doing well amid the pandemic and he’s happy he’s been able to spend more time with his son doing fun activities together. He told Seymour they have even been “camping” on the weekends in the garden – something which his partner Lauren took a while to get used to.

“I mean Eric, I was concerned how he was going to cope with all of this,” Simon admitted. “But, he’s been absolutely amazing. He’s still been able to do school work and now we’re camping on the weekends in the garden. Lauren, the first time, at 11 o’clock said, ‘I just can’t deal with this, I’m going back inside,’ and I said ‘no, we’re staying outside’.”

Meanwhile, Cowell also shared some advice to others who may be struggling during lockdown and said the most important thing is to “occupy your mind”.

“You’ve got to stick to a routine,” he said. “Fortunately, with things like Zoom … you stay in touch with the world. Keep everyone motivated, come up with new ideas, because I never get this kind of time normally.”
