‘Dad paid’: Samantha Markle slams Meghan’s ‘lying’ and ‘delusional’ speech

Samantha Markle has branded her sister a “liar” after the Duchess of Sussex gave a speech about the difficulties of paying to go to university.

Meghan gave her first speech of the Commonwealth tour at the University of the South Pacific in Suva on Wednesday. The 37-year-old shared her own personal experiences of struggling to afford university fees when she was in her early twenties and trying to navigate America’s expensive higher education system.

But Samantha has now fired back and accused her sister of lying, claiming it was instead their father who forked out the money for her education.

Taking to Twitter, she wrote: “Dad paid her college tuition! She forgot the most important part of her speech and there are receipts to prove it. I love my sister but this is ridiculous. You can’t lie like this, Meg! Delusional absurd.”

The pregnant duchess is currently on a royal tour around Australia, Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand with husband Prince Harry.

In the speech, Meghan told students: “As a university graduate, I know the personal feeling of pride and excitement that comes with attending university.

“From the moment you receive your acceptance letter to the exams you spend countless late nights studying for, the lifelong friendships you make with your fellow alumni to the moment that you receive your diploma, the journey of higher education is an incredible, impactful and pivotal one. I am also fully aware of the challenges of being able to afford this level of schooling for many people around the world, myself included.

“It was through scholarships, work study and my earnings from a job on campus went directly towards my tuition that I was able to attend university. And without question it was worth every effort.”

Samantha’s latest comments come a month after she travelled to the United Kingdom to confront Meghan in person. According to UK publication The Mirror, Samantha showed up uninvited at the home of Prince Harry and Meghan, but was turned away by security guards. The 53-year-old was said to be embarrassed after staff refused to let her past the gates of Kensington Palace.

In photographs obtained by the publication, Samantha could be seen handing over a letter to an officer, thought to be for her half-sister.

During the visit, Samantha apologised for her behaviour on the Jeremy Vine Show, explaining that she wanted to move forward and how she wished things could have been different.

Still, she also took aim at Meghan’s mother Doria, alleging she “wasn’t around much” during Meghan’s teenage years.

The Duchess of Sussex and Samantha have had a strained relationship for quite some time, made worse when Samantha went public with her outbursts ahead of Meghan’s wedding to Prince Harry in May.
