The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge teamed up for their first joint, in-person engagement since March over the weekend, as the couple visited Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn. Their outing was in honour of the NHS’s 72nd birthday on Sunday.

Catherine looked sensational yesterday as she stepped out wearing a stunning navy blue silk dress, which featured a striking diamond pattern and eye-catching white cuffs and a collar. The stylish frock tied at the waist with a simple belt and the duchess completed the look with a pair of suede navy stilettos and classic gold and pearl earrings.

Meanwhile Prince William, who recently celebrated his 38th birthday, cut a sharp figure in a smart pair of navy slacks, with a pale blue shirt, navy tie and checked blue blazer. The couple, who have been self-isolating at Anmer Hall with their three young children, appeared in high spirits for the occasion, as they were photographed laughing and talking animatedly with guests.

“Today we mark the 72nd birthday of the NHS, in a year when it was needed more than ever as the nation responds to COVID-19,” a post shared on the official Kensington Palace Instagram page read. “The Duke and Duchess visited the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King’s Lynn to thank staff for their efforts in helping their community.

“Whether you are existing staff, former staff members who came out of retirement, volunteers or key workers – we thank you for the resilience, perseverance and hope you’ve shown our nation.”

The outing was the couple’s first joint engagement since the UK went into lockdown in March. The last time we saw them together for official duties – excluding virtual appearances – was almost four months ago, when they visited the London Ambulance Service 111 control room and met staff who had been taking NHS 111 calls from the public amid the emerging pandemic.

It comes more than a week since Catherine’s last outing on June 27, as she joined families from East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) to help plant a garden at The Nook, one of the charity’s purpose-build hospices.

For the special visit, Catherine wore a beautiful flowing dress from international label Faithfull The Brand, which featured puffed sleeves and a pastel floral pattern. The duchess teamed the look with one of her favourite pairs of espadrilles and wore her hair in a straight style.

Refusing to let style hamper her abilities, Catherine could be seen getting stuck in with the day’s activities in a series of photos which were shared on the official Kensington Palace Instagram account. One shot showed the duchess bending down to the ground and plunging her bare hands into bags full of soil. While other snaps showed her chatting with families.
