When it comes to date nights, the majority of us may be more likely to order a takeaway or splash out on a nice bottle of wine, but the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge pulled out all the stops on Tuesday night as they enjoyed a night out at the theatre.
Prince William and Catherine attended a special performance of ‘Dear Evan Hansen’ at the Noel Coward theatre in London’s Covent Garden, which was put on in aid of The Royal Foundation.
The duchess, 38, looked sensational for the outing in a black boucle dress by Eponine which featured large silver buttons and a flattering mid-length hemline. Catherine completed the sophisticated look with a pair of silver glittering heels by Jimmy Choo, which she has worn on several previous occasions, along with a matching clutch bag.
Meanwhile Prince William cut a dapper figure in a navy blue suit, with a matching tie and a simple pair of black leather shoes.
The duke and duchess spent time with cast members from the show before watching the performance last night, and the royal couple also got the chance to speak with author Steven Levenson about the show’s mental health themes.
The Tony Award-winning musical, which debuted on Broadway in 2015, is about a young boy, named Evan Hansen, who suffers from severe social anxiety and struggles to connect with people in a hyperconnected world.
William, who, alongside his wife, champions mental health causes through their work as senior members of the royal family, also added a note to the show’s programme, in which he shared his delight at being able to attend the performance.
“One of the issues that we care passionately about is mental health and we are pleased that Dear Evan Hansen is helping to start important conversations between parents and teenagers about this important subject,” he wrote, according to the Daily Mail. “Through initiatives including Heads Together and Heads Up, the Royal Foundation is helping tackle the stigma and change the conversation around mental health.
“We are particularly proud that Shout , a mental health support service launched by the Royal Foundation, is one of four not-for-profit partners of Dear Evan Hansen providing mental health resources to audiences of the show.
“As we look to the future, we will continue to deliver ambitious change and genuine, sustainable solutions to some of the biggest challenges we face – including the environment and ensuring young people get the best possible start in life.”
