Prince William has spoken out about the spread of Covid-19 in the United Kingdom, and commended the public for supporting each other during the difficult period.

The Duke of Cambridge became the first member of the British royal family to address the ongoing coronavirus crisis this week as he recorded a short video clip which was shared on the official Kensington Palace Instagram account.

“Whenever and wherever adversity strikes, the people of the UK have a unique ability to pull together,” he said. “The way that local communities support those affected shows the very best of our values and human nature.

“The public’s desire to help in the wake of tragedy needs to be managed and channelled in the best possible way – which is why the establishment of the National Emergencies Trust was so important.”

The duke went on to say that the “day he dreaded” when he launched the National Emergencies Trust (NET) last year has now happened. William added: “Sadly, with the outbreak of Covid-19 that day has come than anyone of us would have hoped. But now more than ever, I’m glad that the NET exists.”

Many followers praised William for the personal message, with one person commenting: “Such an amazing future King. The way you look for every uk citizen” While another said: “Your mom would be proud.”

Another supporter wrote: “He will make a AMAZING King one day.” While another person said: “Bravo for all the good work you do on behalf of the British people!! You are blessed by them and they by you!!”

William’s video came as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared an inspirational quote on their official Sussex Royal Instagram account, which read: “This moment is as true a testament there is to the human spirit.”
