Patti Newton, 73, couldn’t wipe the smile off her face as she attended a red carpet even with her adorable granddaughter, Eva.

Patti is no stranger to a bold red carpet look and she certainly didn’t disappoint as she attended the opening night of Mama Mia! in Melbourne.

The beloved Australian personality looked every bit the star she is in an elegant faux fur coat accessorised with a scarf, diamond heart pendant and gold handbag. Meanwhile, Ava looked adorable in a sequinned jacket, red hair scarf and matching red boots.

Fans were quick to comment with one writing, “Two gorgeous looking girls and I can’t wait to see it,” and another added, “Sending lots of love to you and your beautiful family.”

It comes after Patti defended her husband Bert after his controversial comments at the Logies in June. Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, she wrote: “Thank you for all the wonderful support we’ve had since the Logies from you. Some people wanted to read into things that weren’t there.'”

Newton divided audiences with a speech he made when he took to the stage to present an award. He referred to himself as an “old poof” and made jokes many thought were offensive to the late Graham Kennedy.

Newton addressed the comments speaking to reporters at Melbourne Airport on Monday afternoon, 9News reported.

“Well, I thought it went very well until after the show when I looked at comments on social media,” he said. “I never set out to offend anybody, and I think it’s well known in the industry that I don’t prepare material… I just go for it.

“If I did offend anyone, I apologise. But I can’t promise I wouldn’t do it again.”
