Skating legends Torvill and Dean reunite for glamorous red carpet appearance

Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean made history when they won the 1984 Olympics with their iconic Bolero routine and on Tuesday, the beloved skating duo reunited to launch the brand new series of Dancing on Ice in the United Kingdom.

Torvill and Dean, who have been a double act for more than 45 years, dressed to impress as they stepped out in London for the star-studded event.

Torvill, 61, put on a stunning display in a dark blue figure-hugging dress, which she teamed with a pair of black heels. She wore her hair back in a loose bun and accessorised with an icy-blue scarf for the occasion. Meanwhile Dean, 60, looked dapper in a double-breasted tuxedo.

The famous couple wowed audiences at the Sarajevo Games in Yugoslavia in 1984, with their incredible Bolero routine. They were the first duo to get top scores from every single judge on the panel, and it paved a career in the spotlight for the pair of them – ending with their current gig on Dancing On Ice. A preview clip for the upcoming series has made its debut online and features an array of well-known UK celebrities.

Torvill and Dean are currently judges on Dancing on Ice. The reality show made a triumphant comeback this year after being axed in 2014, with many praising Torvill and Dean’s place on the judging panel as part of the show’s success.

It comes after news broke of a new movie which will delve into Torvill and Dean’s personal lives. The one-off movie will follow their lives right from their beginnings in Nottingham, UK, through to their Olympic success.

It will focus on how Dean’s childhood heartache following his parents’ divorce triggered his determination for success on the ice, as well as Torvill’s early reserved nature and her battle to bring out her passion on to the ice.

The pair said they’re “honoured” to have a film made about their lives, and added in a statement: “We have thoroughly enjoyed the time we have spent with William Ivory and the team at Darlow Smithson sharing experiences of our passion for skating, the life long friendship that came through our sport and everything that it took to achieve our eventual goal of becoming Olympic champions.”

The two-hour ITV film, simply titled Torvill and Dean is set to air on Christmas Day in the UK.
