Nicole Kidman led a stream of glamorous stars at the annual Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts (AACTA) Awards on Wednesday, stealing the show in a vibrant dress alongside her beloved mother.

Everyone from Kerri-Anne Kennerley and Noni Hazlehurst, to Shaynna Blaze and Sigrid Thornton joined her on the star-studded red carpet as they gathered at The Star in Sydney to honour movie and TV greats of the last year.

Nicole, 51, proudly posed alongside her mother Janelle and niece Lucia Hawley, after taking them along as plus ones, before giving a moving speech on stage in which she praised her mum’s tough love approach to parenting.

Wearing a floor-length glittery multi-coloured dress with a floral design from head-to-toe and a sheer panel across the waist, Nicole couldn’t help but stand out from her fellow celebrities as she posed for photos outside.

Wearing her blonde hair tied up in a loose ponytail, the Hollywood star opted for comfort with low silver shoes and wore simple earrings to complete her eye-catching look.

Meanwhile, her mum co-ordinated perfectly in a long black dress with a loose black jacket over the top covered in multi-coloured floral designs. And keen to shine out alongside her family members, Lucia looked beautiful in a floor-length black and white tiered ball gown and nude strappy heels, following in her aunt’s footsteps as she towered in front of the cameras.

Sharing a photo of them together on Instagram shortly before, Nicole wrote: “Grateful to be going to the AACTA Awards with my mum and niece in Australia. Thank you for the nominations for #BoyErased, it means so much.”

The nominations proved successful, as Nicole won the coveted Best Supporting Actress for her role on movie Boy Erased and she paid tribute to her mum in her acceptance speech, reportedly saying: “She has loved me so much.”

According to the Mail Online, the actress added: “My mum has said a lot of things to me – pull your head in and get yourself up off the ground, Nicole, and get on with it… which is a great piece of advice.”

Joining them on the red carpet was TV favourite Kerri-Anne Kennerley, 65, who followed a similar colourful theme in a very bright jacket covered in multi-coloured flowers.

She coupled the bright top with loose, flared black trousers and carried a simple jewelled black and silver bag in one hand. Wearing her hair loose and with a slight wave, she appeared completely at ease as she flashed a smile to the cameras.

Meanwhile, TV legend Noni Hazlehurst, 65, looked super glam in a long knee-length white jacket over a metallic floor-length skirt and low silver shoes. She wore her hair loose over her shoulders and carried a matching silver clutch bag to the event.

She was joined there by The Block host Shaynna Blaze, who appeared in great spirits following her recent marriage split as she posed alongside Aussie landscaper Charlie Albone.

The TV star, 55, wore a dramatic turquoise strapless dress with a huge flower design across the entire front. She added a statement blue jewel necklace round her neck and wore her hair tightly held back in a neat bun.

When asked how she’s doing following her split from husband Steve Vaughan, she told Yahoo Lifestyle: “I feel great… Onwards and upwards.”

Elsewhere, Aussie TV star Sigrid Thornton went for a classic black dress as she risked all with a very plunging neckline and metallic black material that clung to her frame and fell to her feet.

The 59-year-old actress dazzled in the simple outfit which came complete with its own train, and coupled it with large pearl earrings – while wearing her hair loosely pinned back in soft waves.

The AACTA Awards honour the biggest name in TV, film, documentary and more every year with 56 awards handed out in total this time round.
