‘No VIPs’: Psychic John Edward reveals what the afterlife is really like

It’s a topic that has divided people for centuries, with countless claims circulating and debates raging over just what happens when we die.

Now, world famous psychic John Edward has shared his own experiences, after communicating with the dead and lost loved ones of some of the world’s biggest stars for decades.

In an exclusive chat with Starts at 60, the TV star has given an inside glimpse at exactly how he receives his messages, communicates with people from beyond the grave, and then relays those messages to his guests – while insisting he’s never received one that has been unhappy.

John is famed for touring the world with sell-out shows and a hit program, Crossing Over with John Edwards, in the early 2000s. On it, he met huge stars including the Kardashians, as well as appearing on shows with hosts Ellen DeGeneres, Jimmy Kimmel, Dr Phil and more. However, he has insisted while there may be famous stars in the world – the gap soon disappears when we die.

“There’s no red carpet in the after life, there’s no red velvet ropes or VIP line, loss is loss,” he said. “Here’s the analogy I’ll give, if you have a heart surgeon who has done thousands of cases over his career, but at some point needs heart surgery himself, it doesn’t matter if he’s a heart surgeon, he’s still going to have to go through the experience and heal in the same way his patients would. It’s a human experience, and I feel that way about everyone – especially when it comes to grief.”

Asked to describe the afterlife, John admitted it’s almost impossible – as the part he has experienced may be vastly different to others. He did however reveal his own thoughts, and compared it to 1987 movie Made in Heaven, with actors Timothy Hutton and Kelly McGillis.

“I think that movie got close to some of the concepts of the afterlife, and what it’s like for me personally,” he explained.

“I feel an energy that is sort of downloaded to me. I believe that we are still evolving as a consciousness and a soul, and we’re learning lessons.”

While John has been asked by several publishers to pen a book about the afterlife, he has constantly turned them down, insisting it would be “irresponsible”.

“Using Australia as an example, I’ve been going to Australia for the last 12 to 13 years, I could tell you where I’ve gone and what I’ve seen, as well as my experiences, but I can’t write the history book or the tour guide book to Australia. The country is vast,” he said.

“That’s how I feel about what I do. I could tell you about my projections, but I couldn’t tell you what the afterlife is like. It would be irresponsible of me.”

Asked if deceased people are usually at peace when he contacts them, John said: “I’ve never had someone come through to me to tell their loved ones that they’re not OK. Never.

“I’ve never had someone come through to say ‘I’m stuck, can you send me prayers’, and I’ve dealt with people involved in awful tragedies.

“However, I will say when someone crosses over following a suicide, those energies come through with a feeling of, well, it’s a bit harder for them. They’re having to look on loved ones that are unfinished on some level. But no-one has come through saying that they’re stuck.”

John is now preparing to tour Australia later this year, and explaining how his shows will work, he said he’ll cover an explanation of his psychic abilities, an exercise for the audience to try, and invite volunteers to have readings done live.

Taking us inside the process itself, he explained: “I have to have someone’s permission first, before I allow myself to open up. Then it’s a case of paying attention to what’s coming through, what I’m seeing, what I’m hearing, what I’m feeling. If it’s going to happen, it will.”

He added: “I recently did a radio interview, and one of the hosts asked me to do a reading for her, and I said I can’t guarantee I’ll be able to do a reading for you – once I open up, whatever happens happens’.

“I ended up reading for someone who was outside the studio in the offices. That’s the reality of it.”

John explained he doesn’t need to be close to people to read them, and can do it over the phone, he simply needs their permission to then receive energy relating to them.
