Rolf Harris could be freed from jail in just six weeks’ time, having served roughly half of his sentence for committing indecent assaults against young girls,.

The convicted paedophile has been told that he could leave Stafford Prison in late June, and is believed to be keen to rush to the side of wife Alwen, who in failing health, The Mirror reported.

But Harris may face a hiccup – he has another court hearing over other sex offices, which is due to begin on May 15, and if found guilty, his stay in prison could be extended.

The singer and artist was convicted in July 2014 of 12 indecent assaults on four girls between 1968 and 1989. He was cleared in February of three other sexual assaults but the upcoming case is a retrial on three charges relating to that case, after the original jury was unable to reach a decision. There is also one new count.

At the time of his original conviction, the judge told Harris that half of his sentence would be “non-custodial”. The trial lasted six weeks, during which the jury heard that the Australian entertainer targeted a number of girls, including a friend of his daughter Bindi.

Harris denied the claims, saying that the girls, now women, were “all making it up”. He did admit, however, having an affair with one of the girls, but said that it did not begin until she was 18 years old.
