Reports Gerard Baden-Clay paying for prison protection

Gerard Baden-Clay is serving his sentence for his wife's murder.

Gerard Baden-Clay is reportedly paying off some of his fellow prisoners for protection, according to sources inside the Wolston Correctional Centre.

Nine News is reporting Baden-Clay has been paying other prisoners to be his “bodyguards” and protect him from his fellow inmates.

It’s a practice that often occurs with high-profile prisoners who find themselves as targets on the inside.

Baden-Clay was convicted of murdering his wife Allison in 2012 and handed a life sentence with a non-parole period of 15 years.

The allegations come just weeks after Allison’s family won an uncontested application in court to prevent Baden-Clay from accessing her $1 million in life insurance and superannuation policies.

Allison’s murder has captivated the nation since she was first reported missing by her husband in 2012. Her husband was charged with her murder after her body was discovered near their Brisbane home.

While he was convicted and sentenced for her murder, the charge was downgraded to manslaughter by the court of appeal in 2014, before being reinstated to murder in 2016.

Allison’s family have worked to honour her name since her death, starting the Allison Baden-Clay Foundation for domestic violence support.
