Priscilla opens up as the 40th anniversary of Elvis’ death looms

She was only 14-years-old when they met, but the now 71-year-old Priscilla Presley is looking back at her time with Elvis as the 40th anniversary of his death draws near.

When asked by news.com.au about what she missed the most about The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll Priscilla said, “I miss his laughter”.  She added, “His laughter was so contagious. He’d start and everyone would start — they didn’t know what they were laughing about, they just got so much enjoyment from being with him.

“Watching him was such an experience, It was really heartfelt and I really miss that a lot. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who laughed like that. He was like a little boy”.

After meeting at a party in 1959 while Elvis was in the army in Germany, the two knew that it was meant to be.  They were married in 1967 but the pressures of being the biggest star in the world weighed on the relationship as well as infidelity on both their behalf caused the marriage to end in 1972. The pair remained close even after the divorce, they even left the courthouse hand in hand on the day of their divorce.

Priscilla told news.com.au of the years after their divorce saying, “I had to start discovering who I was”.  She added, “Because, and still to this day, I’m very influenced by everything he said. But I’ve been able to decipher now and realise, ‘oh, that’s Elvis, not me.’”

An active user of social media, Priscilla was asked if she could ever see Elvis on Twitter if he was still with us.  She said, “He just never got into the fame thing. He performed, but if you look back he hardly did any interviews. He did what he was supposed to do, but he wasn’t into it. He was a very private person. I definitely can’t see him on social media. We’ve joked about this before with some of the inner-circle, saying that ‘Elvis would never be on Facebook!’

“He just wasn’t that guy. He was so much more into his art and music than being Elvis Presley.”
