A French national has been named as the eighth victim of the London terror attack after his body was found in the Thames overnight.

Police say Xavier Thomas was crossing the bridge with his girlfriend when the attack started, with witness statements suggesting he was flung over the railing before being swept away with the current.

Thomas’ girlfriend was struck and seriously injured by the van, reports the ABC.

London’s Metropolitan Police say his next of kin have been informed.

The sad development follow confirmation two Australians were killed in the frenzied attacks on London Bridge and the nearby Borough Market.

Yesterday, the families of South Australian nurse Kirsty Boden and Brisbane woman Sara Zelenak confirmed their bodies had been recovered.

Zelenak’s mother, Julie Wallace, posted a short statement on her Facebook page confirming the news.

“Sara Zelenak is confirmed dead they found her body and has DNA tests confirmed thank you for all the overwhelming love and support from everyone,” she wrote.

Boden’s family say she was killed after running towards the attack to try to help victims who were laying injured on the pavement.

“Kirsty was loved and adored by her family, friends and boyfriend. She was the most outgoing, kind and generous person who loved to help people. Helping people was what she loved to do in her job as a nurse and in her daily life,” the statement read.

“As she ran towards danger, in an effort to help people on the bridge, Kirsty sadly lost her life. We are so proud of Kirsty’s brave actions which demonstrate how selfless, caring and heroic she was, not only on that night, but throughout all of her life.

“Kirsty – we love you and we will miss you dearly.”
