Self-declared domestic Goddess and celebrity cook Nigella Lawson has given a shout out to her favourite Australian snack telling her millions of social media followers to try it out.

Nigella retweeted a recipe for potato scallops with chicken salt, saying: “Must make these! Love chips with chicken salt when in Oz”.

The recipe was by Aussie food blogger Sue Quinn who proclaimed “chicken salt is unapologetically trashy”, but delicious.

Chicken salt seems to be one of those toppings that people either love or hate.

When it comes to sprinkling a little extra something on at the chip shop there a number of Aussie classics to choose from: plain salt, chicken salt, vinegar, gravy, tomato sauce.

It looks like Nigella has made her choice though and named chicken salt as her number one!

Friday-night takeaway is practically a national past time here in Australia with millions of people — young and old — heading to the local fish and chips shop for a cheap and cheerful dinner at the end of the week.
