Dutch king reveals his secret day job

The King of the Netherlands has made a surprising revelation to the media in his home country, and it has the whole world talking.

When we think of royalty, few of us think of what they might actually do as a day job – many of you would probably even ask, do royals have day jobs?

Well, the Dutch king does and what he has revealed has come as a complete surprise to many.

King Willem-Alexander has told a newspaper in the Netherlands he has secretly been co-piloting for Dutch airline KLM.

As the ABC reports, the 50-year-old has been co-piloting two flights a month – describing it as a “hobby”.

“I find flying simply fantastic,” he told newspaper De Telegraafs, according to the ABC.

“You can’t take your problems from the ground into the skies. You can completely disengage and concentrate on something else.

“That, for me, is the most relaxing part of flying.”

It was common knowledge in the Netherlands that before he became king in 2013, King Willem-Alexander would regularly flight KLM passenger flights.

But few people realised he continued to do so even after ascending to the throne.

In fact, the king revealed that few people recognised him in uniform in the airport or when his voice would make announcements during a flight.

“Before September 11, the cockpit door was open. People regularly came to have a look and thought it was nice or surprising that I was sitting there,” the ABC reports the king said.

What a surprise for so many!
