Married to Maurie Fields together they performed side by side for over 40 years on stage and on screen. Maurie died in 1995, at the age of 69, from a heart attack.

It was their son, comedian Marty Fields, who confirmed her death.

Taking to social media Marty said his mother had been hospitalised late last month and was battling pneumonia in intensive care, and was then put on life support.

“My mum, Val, passed away today,” he wrote. “She lived an amazing life.

“She’s back with her beloved Maurie now. I will miss her very much.”

During her career Val starred in countless television productions, including Prisoner, Division 4 and Homicide. In later years she appeared in RFDS and Neighbours, and published three books.

She was also a regular on Good Morning Australia with Bert Newton, who recently was also in hospital with pneumonia.
