A Current Affair reporter charged over child abuse material

A Current Affair reporter Ben McCormack has been arrested and charged by police today over alleged child pornography offences.

Police will allege McCormack “was engaged in sexually explicit conversations about children with an adult male and discussed child pornography”, reports News Corp.

He was charged with sending child pornography material after being arrested by detectives from the Sex Crimes Squad during a vehicle stop in Moore Park around 7.30am.

Police raided his office at Channel Nine’s Sydney offices this morning, searching the entire ACA office at Willoughby before seizing his computer on site, the Daily Telegraph reports.

They also raided his home and removed computers, a mobile phone, and electronic storage devices.

NSW police entered the Channel Nine building armed with evidence bags and removed staff members from the premises while conducting the search.

Earlier, a Channel Nine spokesman told Starts at 60 the network was cooperating with police.

“The police are in the ACA offices doing an investigation and we are co-operating fully. The matter is a personal one and not related to a story or the program.”

A spokesman for NSW Police confirmed they had conducted the operation.

“The investigation related to a personal matter of an employee,” the spokesman said.

McCormack was taken to the Redfern police station where he is expected to be charged shortly.
